Day's End, sunset seascape on a rocky shore

"Day's End"

From a painting demonstration. The colors turned out better than I had hoped. (Teaching a lesson often leaves my work in  need of many corrections by the time I am finished helping everyone else.)

Ready to frame.

Sun Down, sunset seascape

"Sun Down"

Created this painting alla prima, or all in one session.  It was done from memory with a palette knife a few years ago.  This one has an abstract feel to it.  Wanted to capture the fleeting moments of the end of the day and the movement in the sky and water.  It really poured out of me. I love it when it flows like that.

ENJOY!

Inlet Park, plein air painting, Florida seascape

"Inlet Park"

Did this a few years ago with my plein air group out in Fort Pierce. It was far more challenging than I imagined to capture the windy day and the changing colors of sky and water.  I love the end result, however, and think I captured the effect I was after.

Sun Up, palette knife sunrise landscape

"Sun Up"

I did this knife painting a few years ago. I was interested in the way the sun came from the other side of the bank and of course the reflections.  I like using a knife for unique color mixtures and textures.

Enjoy!

Be Back Soon

I have been working two part-time jobs: teaching art after school, and substitute teaching during the day. I am also taking 2 college courses, and I had to re-take my subject area exam for my state certification.  (Found out I could still get it re-instated if I got caught up on every thing before the end of June.)  I am half way there!  Passed my big exam on art history, teaching strategies, and developmental stages of children in art education.  It was a two and a half hour test!  And it was a two hour drive to get to the testing site.  Studied for a couple of weeks. Glad that is over with!

Robert laughs at me, says it is my own fault for letting things get so far behind.  He is right, but I was honestly taking care of him through all of his brain surgeries.  Oh well, it is good to have him back, and hear him laugh again.

At any rate, for the first time in many years, I have not been painting at all these days, but I will get back to it when my final exams are finished.  I have six new paintings I can't wait to finish, but I have to stay focused on getting these courses done.  Summer courses are twice the work in a short amount of time......

Bear Side, mountain landscape

"Bear Side"

This was fun to paint because of the thick paint and texture created with a palette knife. I created it from my memories of Montana.  I added a grizzly bear near the tree line (which was hard to render with the palette knife!)

Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas
The scene continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Water Daze, sunset reflections

"Water Daze"

Just finished this last week. It took a while to figure out, but I wanted to capture that daydream feeling you get when you stare at the light dancing on the water. I took a bunch of pictures while we were fishing on Lake Okeechobee. The sun went behind the clouds and peeked through here and there. It was cold and windy, but beautiful.

The painting continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

First Time For Everthing, foal running

"First Time for Everything"

Got great pictures of this new colt running around the paddock his first time out. He had a hard time getting here, and his mother almost didn't make it. One of the foal's legs came through the rectum and the other got hung up backwards.  The mare could not move around very well after being sown back together. They were kept in a stall until she could walk some.

When he took off bucking and running around, she would call him back each time.  He would catch his breath and then take off again! It was way too cool to watch. He lives next door to me.

I was mostly interested in the backlighting and how it set him off.  The dust kicking up was also something I wanted to try to capture.  I exaggerated the background and moved things around to create more contrast because the sunset blurred so much of it out.  I think it is one of best works!
